Introducing: The WashMO Blend

Exit 11’s new coffee roast is based on our very own Washington, Missouri

Our newest coffee roast has been in the making for a long time. Since 1990, to be exact. For this new roast, we wanted to create a coffee that tastes like home. The kind of taste that can transport you back to a moment in time with just one sip. Thus, the WashMO Blend was born.

Our founder Angela Garland grew up and has spent most of her life in St. Louis but she now calls Washington, MO home. Though she didn’t move to WashMO until 2017, her roots in the town go back all the way to the 1990s when her parents (Erin & Leo) owned the Old Dutch Tavern & Hotel.

Leo Weyerich (Angela’s father) was a jack of all trades, but a true artist at heart. One day, he climbed to the roof of The Old Dutch and took a landscape photo of Downtown Washington, which he later turned into a painting. The rooftop painting features the steeple of St. Francis Borgia Church in downtown Washington and the steeple of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Dutzow can be seen in the Missouri River farmland to the north. The painting was entered in the 1991 Washington Town and Country Fair and received first prize in the Fine Arts Division.

When Angela had the opportunity to open a coworking center and coffee shop in WashMO, she knew the the painting would be a focal point of the design. Leo passed away in 2010, and his family is always finding ways to honor him. Not only does his WashMo painting hang in our coffee shop, it is now the cover of our newest coffee blend.

Angela wanted to make a new coffee blend that felt like home. The WashMo blend is a combination of our Ethiopian bean and our Colombian bean with a medium roast. It results in lots of caffeine but a very smooth taste. Perfect for a pour-over or drip coffee at home.

PS: Use code WashMo for 20% off until 3/15. For pick-up orders only (online or in-store).

Bonus History: Leo painted this scenic Dutch-inspired mural at The Old Dutch using only a 5 gallon bucket of white paint and a 5 gallon bucket of blue paint for his palette.
